Gibbs Construction Wins Four South Central Construction Top Awards

NEW ORLEANS, LA – December 21, 2010 – Gibbs Construction, LLC was awarded the 2010 Judges Award for Construction and three Best in Category awards by South Central Construction magazine at the publication’s annual Louisiana’s Best of 2010 awards ceremony, held on December 2, in Baton Rouge. The program recognizes construction and design excellence in Louisiana projects completed in the last year.

Gibbs was presented with the 2010 Judges Award for Construction for the 930 Poydras Street project, a $54.9M multi-family, retail and parking building in downtown New Orleans. The Judges Award is given to the project(s) deemed the best of all the entries for the year.

The 930 Poydras Street project also received the Best in Category award (Architecture & Multi-Family Residential). The $17.6M Louisiana Superdome Phase III Re-Skin project won Best in Category award (Specialty Project) and the $5.7M Modernization of Fleming Hall at Jackson Barracks project won Best in Category award (Best Renovation/Restoration). As a 2010 Judges Award recipient, the 930 Poydras Street project is pictured on the cover of the December 2010 issue of South Central Construction magazine.

Gibbs president Robert S. Wooderson discussed the winning projects. “These outstanding projects epitomize our company’s mission and goal of consistently achieving a high level of quality, safety, and innovation,“ Wooderson said.

“These projects are also important because of how they enhance the community, whether it be the restoration of iconic buildings such as the Superdome or Jackson Barracks, or the revitalization of downtown with a project such as 930 Poydras,” Wooderson added.

Winners were chosen from 103 total nominated projects from Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. The independent panel of industry experts awarded entries on criteria including safety, construction innovation, contribution to the community or industry, client service, project management, construction quality and craftsmanship, and function and aesthetic quality of design. Gibbs Construction’s winning entries were entered into the national Best of 2010 competition and will be judged against winners from other regions. National winners will be profiled in the January 2011 issue of Engineering News-Record magazine.
