Gibbs Awarded with American Concrete Institute Award of Excellence

NEW ORLEANS, LA – January 10, 2011 – Gibbs Construction, LLC has been selected to receive the American Concrete Institute’s Award of Excellence for its 930 Poydras Street multi-family project. The award will be presented at the ACI Louisiana Chapter Best Concrete Projects Banquet on January 21, 2011, at the Metairie Country Club in Metairie, Louisiana.

Gibbs president Robert S. Wooderson discussed the significance of the project.
“The 930 Poydras building is truly innovative and unique in its use of concrete as both a structural material and as an aesthetic resource to create a sophisticated residential tower in a downtown environment. Concrete was used for all aspects of the structure, not only as its foundation but also as a major architectural element. The apartment floors, ceilings, shear-walls and columns are left exposed to create a striking, modern environment,” Wooderson said.

The newest edition to the New Orleans skyline, 930 Poydras Street is a 21-story concrete framed, glass and insulated metal panel skinned building with many innovative amenities. The $54.9 million project took 26 months to complete. The building houses three retail tenants at street level, 500 parking spaces, 250 apartments and six townhouses overlooking the interior pool deck above the parking structure. Other amenities include a sky lobby and a fitness center. The building serves as a significant residential and business element of the revitalization of downtown New Orleans. The building includes 10,000 sq. ft. of retail space, 200,000 sq. ft. of parking and 250,000 sq. ft. of residential space.

Current Gibbs Construction projects include the Rouses Supermarket on Baronne Street in downtown New Orleans, and renovation of 1009 Poydras Street. Recent Gibbs Construction projects include the renovation of the U.S. Custom House, New Orleans, $21.3M; Rice Mill Lofts, New Orleans, $15M; Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport Terminal Improvements in Kenner, Louisiana $12.5M; Val Reiss Multi-Purpose Building in Chalmette, Louisiana, $11.5M; the renovation of the Touro Medical Office Building in New Orleans, $7.9M; and the renovation of Hancock Bank in Gulfport, Mississippi, $6.3M.
