Meraux, LA
DESCRIPTION:
This project consists of new construction from the ground up a state-of-the-art, technology-rich institution of learning for St. Bernard Parish. Total square footage of the school is approximately 72,000 sq. ft. which consists of 44 classrooms, a computer room, a media center room and an arts room. The school also includes as part of its amenities a performance stage and a large cafeteria with a fully accessorized kitchen. The structure of the building consists of architectural block work, brick veneer, structural steel, standing seam metal roof, interior gypsum boards and acoustical ceilings. Gibbs Construction successfully completed this project within 9 months; an almost impossible task considering a job this size could easily have taken 18 months as it was laid out on the design schedule. Due to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, St. Bernard Parish School Board needed the facility to help continue in the growth and population of the rebuilding of St. Bernard Parish.
