East and West Bank of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana
DESCRIPTION:
This project consists of seven concrete structures located on the East and West Banks of Jefferson Parish at Jefferson Parish Flood Control Pumping Facilities. The structures consist of elevated slabs on concrete columns and drill shafts for supporting self contained concrete living units for housing the Pump Operators during a major hurricane event. These structures and living units are rated to withstand up to 250 mph winds. Each involved installation of 9 or 12 – 36” diameter drill shafts ranging from 60’-100’ below grade and extending up to a height of 23’ to 28’ above grade in order to support the elevated platform for the Safe House living units. The structures include steel stairs and spiral stair for access and emergency egress. The project’s purpose is to provide for a safe haven for drainage department operating personnel to seek refuge during the time of the major force of a passing storm. This will protect our parish property and citizens from flooding due to inability to safely man the pump stations to pump out the rain water or storm surge brought in by the major storm events.
