New Orleans, LA
The Louisiana Superdome Re-Skin was large-scale project featuring new inventions and one-of-a-kind construction, design and engineering techniques. The renovation to this iconic symbol of the New Orleans skyline attracted international publicity and earned several industry awards. Successful partnerships and ingenuity were key components in returning this legendary structure to its original beauty.
The stadium’s entire outer skin layer, over 400,000 square feet, was replaced using the latest building technology which included 16,000 new independently removable panels with an adjustable structural sub-framing clip attachment system, tested to exceed code requirements and withstand high wind conditions that would be encountered from storms or hurricane-force winds. In addition to the new metal wall panel with clip system, the project included selective demolition of all exterior aluminum metal wall panels, mechanical louver screens for the structure’s new club level windows, expansion joints, repairs to sub decking, 4” thick spray foam with waterproofing (Polyurea), and the installation of two escalators located on the plaza level for new access to the ballrooms.
