New Orleans, LA
DESCRIPTION:
The renovation of this historic, 119-year-old school involved interior renovation and conversion of the first floor from storage area to staff offices, cafeteria, and dining room. The second and third floors were renovated from classrooms to private/semi-private dormitory housing. The two rear concrete buildings were demolished to accommodate a new three-story masonry addition, housing a commercial-style kitchen. Exterior renovations included replacement of the windows to original design, a new slate mansard roof, and removal of the front concrete stair tower replaced with a front terrace. The McDonogh school design lent itself well to adaptation into a multi-family facility. The large site allows for a secured side yard for children’s play area and secured parking.
