Barksdale Air Force Base, LA
DESCRIPTION:
This 12 month, fast track design/build project consisted of restoration and renovation to the approximately 102,000 sq. ft. multi-story facility. The building houses the 8th Air Force Command Center, the 2nd Bomb Wing, and numerous other agencies of the Air Force. This historic building had been completely destroyed by fire. The restoration consisted of building a completely new steel roof structure and all new interior partitions, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. The project required a state-of-the-art IDS security system as well as approximately 78 miles of fiber optic cable.
Various support areas were provided including conference rooms, administrative space, public restrooms, security office, kitchenettes, and secured communication rooms. The project included state-of-the-art sustainability features such as high-value thermo insulation, Low E Glazing, and high efficiency heating and cooling systems. An elevator and handicap accessibility ramps were added in compliance with ADA requirements.
