Fort Polk, LA
DESCRIPTION:
This project consisted of the renovation of a 5-story, 81,300 sq. ft. bldg. that was built in the mid-1970s to house soldiers. A large amount mold, asbestos and lead paint abatement was needed, as was complete interior demolition and interior build-out along with all new finishes. The construction also included the removal of a 30′x50′ portion of the existing concrete roof structure to allow for a vaulted ceiling at the commanders conference room, all new MEP systems including emergency generator, replacement of the existing windows, the addition of a front entrance, and mechanical rooms, the construction of new loading docks, and three separate parking areas. The building and site were brought up to current ATFP requirements which included the structural reinforcement of existing walls and construction of earthen berms around the building perimeter. The Army Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) and Ft. Polk Headquarters consolidated operations within the post into the building creating an executive center for the base.
