New Orleans, LA
DESCRIPTION:
The scope of this project was to build a multi-family, wood framed, three-story building on a raised elevated concrete deck over a parking garage on grade. The land was attained by Baumer Foods/Crystal Preserves, which is locally famous for its jelly, hot sauce, mustard and other condiments. The Preserve, which also takes its name from one of their infamous products, provides 183 units, including 28 handicap units, 57 affordable rate units, and 98 market rate units. The exterior of the building is brick veneer, stucco, and hardi siding. The interiors of the units are finished with wood, carpet and tile flooring. The building has two secure, landscaped courtyards and a swimming pool. The total square footage is 270,000 feet with 199,000 square feet of living space. Site work for this project included the demolition of the famous Baumer Foods/Crystal Preserves buildings, site grading of the 5-acre site, installation of new sidewalks and storm drainage, installation of new pavement on the surrounding streets. This project is one of two in which Gibbs Residential and Domain Companies teamed up together in effort to rebuild New Orleans.
